Dr. Abbas G. Idris is an accomplished risks and disaster manager and a seasoned administrator whose work life has traversed both the private and public sectors of the economy. He currently serves as the Chairman, Springboard Insurance Brokers Ltd, a position where his vast experiences are of immense benefit to the impact the company is making in the industry.
Dr. Abbas, began his career in Kaduna as an Insurance Broker after his national service, from where he later joined the services of National Insurance Corporation (NICON) and served meritoriously for 10 years. He held several strategic management positions at NICON, the last being the Chief Operating Officer (COO) from where he resigned voluntarily to pursue other interests in Insurance Broking and Risk Management Consulting.
When the Federal Government, was to set up a disaster management emergency agency for the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Dr Abbas was called upon to serve the nation as the pioneer Director General, FCT Emergency Management Agency.
Dr. Abbas holds Diploma in Crisis and Mass Disaster Management from Galilee International Management Institute Israel; Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics from the University of Maiduguri and Masters of Science Degree in Business Administration from the same University. He also holds Masters of Science in Disaster Risk Management & Development Studies Degree from the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree (PhD) in Political Economy and Development Studies from the University of Abuja.
He has attended several local and international courses , including Managing a Joint Operations Room training, by the UK Cabinet Office Emergency Planning College, Executive Capacity Building Training on Leadership & Human Resource Management, from the Institute for Peace and Dialogue, Basel- Switzerland- Emergency Water Security Course, organized by Smart Water Group, Israel; Group Training Course on Capacity Development For Flood Risk Management with IFAS at the International Centre for Water Hazard and Risk Management (ICHARM), The Public Works Research Institute (PWRI) Japan.
He is a Fellow, Risk Managers Society of Nigeria (RIMSON); Fellow, Public Administration And Management Development Institute; Member, Nigerian Economic Society; Member, Nigerian Institute of Management; Member, Institute of Management Consultants and Senior Member, Chartered Institute of Insurance of Nigeria; Associate Member, Society of Professional Disaster Risk Managers of Nigeria and a recipient of the 2020 Federal Capital Territory Administration’s Outstanding Leadership Award.
Dr. Abbas is happily married with children. He is a tennis player par excellence and also enjoys horse racing as a hobby.
